Sizes of OSR products

I've done a little research on page sizes of OSR-related works available via lulu.com. It seems that favorite paper format is 8,5 inches x 11 inches, but the results are quite surprising:

8.25 x 10.75: 2
8.5 x 11: more than 15
6 x 9: 8
5.83 x 8.26 (A5): 4
8.26 x 11.69 (A4): 4

Due to the problems with formatting Towers of Krshal will be available in European A5 format. I hope that it does not bother you.

  1. Personally, I like A5 or trade sized books; easier to lug around the larger formats.

  2. Bother me? Hell no! Personally, I think A5 is the ideal size for roleplaying stuff. Big enough to get plenty of info on a page (or a double-page spread), small enough to be easy to carry around, and it doesn't take up too much space on the table. I'm kind of sorry that A4/Letter got to be the perceived standard.

    1. I remember that A4 hardcover edition of WHFRP was a life saver during outdoor gaming. We could roll our dice on it :D

  3. I found pretty much the same when I was looking into sizes. All the A5-ish shapes seem to be collectively known as "digest size", but 8.5" x 11" does appear to be the most popular.

  4. I have said it before and I'll say it again now: A5 is my favourite format. So I've just ordered Towers of Krshal, and decided to get a print copy of Terminal Space too. Cheers!
